Mershon, William B. Recollections of My Fifty Years Hunting and Fishing Stratford Company, Publishers. Boston. 1923. 1st ed. Fine copy, best I have seen. Covers the years from 1870's to 1923. Subjects include wild turkey (including a photo of the last one killed in Michigan, in 1886), ruffed grouse, quail, rail, passenger pigeons!, ducks, geese, deer camps, Sandhill cranes, and more, as well as salmon, grayling, trout. Mr Mershon had the money and time to hunt as he wished and he did us a favor by recording his adventures so we can see back into a very distant past. What great times for the sportsman. Original maroon cloth cover with gilt lettering on spine and front cover is in remarkable condition. This is the best one I have seen in over 35 years selling hunting and fishing books. Fine, interior with previous owner's name in that wonderful script they used to write with. That is the only mark inside this book, which is near very fine inside.
