Holland, Ray (Raymond P.). Bird Dogs. Barnes. 1948. SIGNED limited edition, #100/250. That is correct, only 250 copies were printed, sixty some years ago! If you have not seen this issue, it is pretty slick. Brick red sloth cover has gold gilt stampings on spine and border on front cover. Black dog head on cover. The slipcase is clear plastic with Bird Dogs and the overlay of the same dog head, and Holland's name in red. When combined it presents a very nice look. Illus. by Fred McCaleb and with photos. Holland uses the term bird dog in the broader sense, including breeds used by sportsman in pursuit of game birds and waterfowl, so your favorite is likely included. He gives the background of the breeds and then examples of the same in actual conditions in the field doing what they were meant to do. Come on along. I know you will enjoy the trips. Book is Fine, bordering on very fine. Plastic slipcase has some chips and small pieces, but is still very good+. It is still intact and doing its job--protecting the book. Very scarce. The most popular wildlife artist of his time, Hunt could truly capture the spirit of his subjects, be they duck, fox or snipe, etc. Tall, 4to format, this book contains 44 b/w plates and 4 tissue guarded full color plates. While the dj has a 3 1/2 by 2 1/4 inch piece out of the top front, only part of the title and author's name are missing, the illustration being 99 and 4/100th intact. That there is a dj at all is remarkable for this book. It is one that must be looked thru over and over, and in 66 years djs don't stand up very often on such books.
